May Playlist

Here's what to play during May! It is basically summer, the weather is great, and I am having the time of my life in East Texas. But really. My expectations have been lowered to an almost nonexistent level and there are cookies and everyone is nice. Also there are no papers to write, which is probably the nicest part. Everyone, finish school and come sit in my backyard with my parents- it's the nicest place on Earth.

I always feel a pinge of jealousy whenever I see a pristine desk or well-applied color scheme in a work place. These pictures are some of the spaces that I covet the most. After reviewing, it's looking like I'm in a very black-white-and-chalk-board mood lately.

Bling Ring

One thing that's always great about summer is finally having the time to go see movies and indulge in some summer blockbusters (I'm looking at you Great Gatsby)! 

Today I stumbled across the teaser trailer for a movie that is definitely going on the must see list. Directed by Sofia Coppola, starring Emma Watson, say no more. Done. Done. Done.

It's called Bling Ring and tells the stories of a group of friends in LA that track celebrities only to then go rob their homes once they're out. Perhaps the most hilarious part is that it's based on true events. 

The full trailer is out as well (see below) and the movie hits theaters June 21st. 

Brooklyn Hipsters

Refinery 29 has a funny new post up illustrating some of Brooklyn's most typical hipsters. Living in Austin, I see some definite similarities. Take a look at some of my favorites:

The DIY Hipster

Often found: Canning, pickling, making jewelry, leather-working, urban farming...and putting them all up on their Etsy shops later 
Brooklyn neighborhood of choice:Clinton Hill and Fort Greene 
Favorite bands: Belle and Sebastian, Foxygen, Kurt Vile

The Warehouse Hipster
Often found: In a cloud of smoke at 285 Kent or Bossa Nova Civic Club 
Brooklyn neighborhood of choice:Bushwick and Bedstuy 
Favorite bands: Light Asylum, DJ Rashad, Prince Rama

The Opening Ceremony Hipster
Often found: Attending fashion parties, attending art school, attending cooking classes (all while curiously pulling off pants in crazy shapes). 
Brooklyn neighborhood of choice:Greenpoint and DUMBO 
Favorite band: Bat For Lashes, Os Mutantes, A$AP Rocky

Also, if you're like me and get a kick out of things like this, look at this gem: a timeline of hipsterdom. I found that little treasure about a year ago in a class I took called "The Rhetoric of Hipsterdom." Wasn't lying when I said I liked this junk.

Let me tell you this great place: imogene + willie.
imogene + willie is run out of Nashville, Tennessee and handcrafts some of the best denim pieces you will ever put on your body. It is a mom and pop shop that hit the big time, and their pieces can now be found in other stores across the country.
What makes them so great? Well, well, well, here's three reasons why:

• They emulate that effortless "Americana" (or rather- "no, no, I just roll out of bed looking perfectly rustic and easy-going and stylish everyday") style so well.
• They are built on some great foundations and touching stories that you can read here.
• Their instagram consists of mostly pictures of their yellow lab. Done. I'm sold.

I recently bought a pair of the Imogene Slims and I feel like my street cred has already gone up. Plus- gotta mention this- word on the street (which I now know about because of my newly claimed cred) is that because these suckers are made out of all natural fibers, you can just pop them into the refrigerator for a quick refresher rather than washing them. Put my clothes in the refrigerator ? What kind of freaky world is this?! DOUBLE SOLD.
